Prunus andersonii

Habit: low growing multi stemmed shrub, with very rigid, tangling twigs that are pointed and spine like. Small clustered oblong leaves are pointed with margins having minute teeth. Purple-pink flowers are in small groupings of 1-2, with 5 concave petals and long whisker like stamens at the center. They appear to cover the entire plant during the peak of blossoming. Reddish orange fruit is small, hairy and peach shaped with thick coated, heart shaped stones. Blooms between March and June.
Ecology: found on open, dry rocky slopes and mesas at elevations from 3000-8500 ft (900-2600 m) in Eastern California and Western Nevada.

Growing Conditions: full sun with dry well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established the first year.
