Delphinium glaucum

Habit: fast growing herbaceous perennial sprouts one to several, stout, pale green erect stems that can reach heights of up to 8 ft (2.5 m) tall. Leaves have three distinctly sharp-toothed lobes and are generally found only at the base of the plant. The underside of all leaves covered in small white hairs.  Inflorescence a large spike comprised of up to 50 deep purplish blue flowers with one sepal forming a nectar spur, blooming in early spring.

Ecology: found in wet meadows, bogs, stream banks, and open coniferous forests in the Olympic and Cascade Mountains in high elevations, 5200-10,500 ft (1600-3200 m)

Growing Conditions: partial to full shade, prefers wet soil that is well-drained.  Cold tolerant.

Plant covered in a thin waxy like covering considered glaucous, hence the name.
